    Mission: Active Rotarian participation
    All grants of The Rotary Foundation requires the active participation of Rotarians.  The Rotary Foundation grants support the good work of Rotary clubs within District 6630.  Projects flourish with the direct and careful guidance and support of local Rotarians.

    Stewardship:
    All grants must display a commitment to stewardship of funds, which reflects the 4-Way Test and responsible fiscal oversight.  The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation are highly committed to proper stewardship of grant funds.  The Trustees have a fiduciary responsibility to the donors of The Rotary Foundation to see that grant funds are spent as intended.  Stewardship includes detailed and committed project planning, submitting complete and accurate applications with documentation, direct Rotarian involvement in the implementation of the project, transparency in all financial transactions, and reporting in an efficient and effective manner.

    Grantmaking:
    The Humanitarian Grants Program of The Rotary Foundation provides grants to Rotary clubs and districts to implement humanitarian projects.  Grants can range from a few hundred to more than a million dollars.  Applications should request the amount that meets the needs of the program, and at a level that is consistent with the organization’s capacity and other anticipated or received support.  There are several grant types that address different service needs and funding options.

    The following grants are available to support these endeavors.

    • District Grants: A tool for Rotary clubs to support short-term, humanitarian projects that benefit the community.
    • Volunteer Service Grants (formerly Individual Grants): Subsidize travel of individual or small groups for qualified international humanitarian service in Rotary countries for periods up to 60 days. Discontinued by RI as of 7/1/09
    • Global Grants: Support international service projects involving Rotary clubs or districts in two or more countries.

    Grant Application Process

    The following information describes District 6630 user friendly Grant Application process.  (The simplified process is being utilized to encourage greater participation from within the district and to eliminate the need for constant training.  Committee members stand ready to assist clubs with their projects and applications!)  ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY VIA THE DISTRICT WEBSITE'S GRANTS MODULE! 

     

    Step 1 – Grant Inquiry Form

    District 6630 Grants Committee requires all potential grant applicants to submit a brief Grant Inquiry Form outlining basic information about the potential applicant’s Rotary Club and the program for which funding is being sought.  This allows the committee to give initial feedback and to indicate whether the application meets the grant guidelines. The Grant Inquiry Form is used to assist in determining the correct grant category for the club’s needs and to ensure that funded components meet the appropriate requirements.

    Step 2 – Submitting Grant Proposal/Application

    Committee Contact and review:

    A committee member will be assigned to the application as an advocate for your club, and will contact your Rotary Club to schedule an appointment or a meeting to assist in the completion of the application.  During this process, your District 6630 Grants Committee advocate may suggest ways to refine or preposition the project and enhance its potential fundability.  Applications that request significant amounts of funding, those that deal with complex or new programs or those where significant questions that need specific answers, will likely require longer review times.  Your advocate contact will assist in the preparation of the application and be able to advise you about the timetable for making the initial presentation of the proposed application.

    Application forms and guidelines:
    There are separate guidelines, criteria, and processes for each grant category. 
    Formal applications for a grant must include a number of important common elements: 

    1. The appropriate grant application form(s) (suggested by your Grants Committee Advocate) should completed accurately.
    2. Applications must be submitted in two formats: hard-copy and electronically (PDF file [preferred] or FAX).
    3. The application should be printed on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. 
    4. Project or program sponsors must agree to work within the “Terms and Conditions” for each category of Grants as set forth by the Rotary Foundation. (This includes the completion of a final report as required by The Rotary Foundation)
    5. Projects must not directly benefit a Rotarian; an employee of a club, district, or other Rotary entity or of Rotary International; or a spouse, lineal descendent, spouse of a lineal descendent, of any ancestor of any living Rotarian or Rotary employee.
    6. Project funds may not be used for salaries, travel, or other administrative overhead costs.
    7. Projects must be Rotary sponsored and publicly defined as such.
    8. Funds may not be used to purchase land or buildings or to construct or remodel buildings.

    Presentation of Application: 

    Along with the committee advocate, Rotary Clubs submitting applications will present the grant concept to the District 6630 Grants Committee in person.  Submission of the Grant Inquiry Forms will place projects into the loop and ensure that sufficient time will be allocated at committee meetings for project/grant presentations.  After presentations are completed, Rotary guests may leave the business portion of meeting.

     

    Grant Application Approval:

    Meetings/Timing and Committee Approvals:
    The District 6630 Grants Committee meets the first Monday of each month, except July (7:00 PM – Twinsburg Public Library).   The committee will make determination on grant applications on a predetermined cycle with approvals being considered every other month (August, October, December, February, April, and June).  In order to ensure that your application will be considered for available funding, completed applications must be presented to the committee at least one month prior to those above.

     

    Notification of Decision:
    If the District 6630 Grants Committee has approved the application for submission to RI, you will receive a Grant Award Letter with Terms and Conditions of the Grant.  This letter contains information about the Rotary International Grants process and what to expect within 30-60 days.

    If a grant is declined, the applicant may contact the District 6630 Grants Committee member assigned to review the grant in order to discuss the reasons for the decline.

    Notification of RI Grant Decision:
    If a grant is accepted by RI, the applicant may contact the District 6630 Grants Committee member assigned to review the application to discuss the forms that will be received from RI with confirmation of approval.

    Completion of an RI Grant:
    Clubs receiving matching grants from The Rotary Foundation and/or the District Foundation must understand that their responsibility does not end until a Final Report has been submitted as appropriate.
