American Nicaragua Hope & Relief Foundation

Recently the American Nicaragua Hope and Relief International Foundation held their annual meeting in Chinnendega, Nicaragua. Elected for his third 3 year term as a Director was District 6630 PDG and past President of the RC of Conneaut, Jack A. Young. There are two separate Boards who work together to support the children of the dump in surrounding communities in Nicaragua.

One Board is the Chinnendega 2001 Board of Directors which is comprised of local business and community leaders in Chinnendega which oversees the trade school and other schools on a day to day basis. The second Board is the American Nicaragua Hope and Relief Foundation, a 501 C-3 Foundation in the United States consisting of Rotarians throughout the United States and is responsible for assisting the funding and donation process to the Children in Nicaragua. Both Boards work together to insure the success of the process.
Other members of the 15 member American Nicaragua Hope and Relief International Foundation Board of Directors include District 6630 Rotarian and Past President of the RC of Aurora; Roger Cram; Past Rotary International 2003-05 Director Mike McCllough from Michigan and current Rotary International Director from Wisconsin and Zones 28-29 Mary Beth Growney Selene. The Board was also served in recent years by the late Rotary International Director and Treasurer for 2011-2013, Betsy Demaray, from Michigan.
According to PDG Young there was a meeting of both Board of Directors in Chinnendega during the recent trip to Nicaragua in December to discuss how both boards could continually strengthen the success of the Betania Trade School, local community schools and their mission.
Over the past 8 years, District 6630 Rotarians and Friends of Rotary have been responsible for sending various items such as Emergency vehicles, medical supplies, school supplies, etc. valued over 500,000 dollars to Nicaragua.
