INDUCT IMPRESSIVELY AND INVOLVE IMMEDIATELY
- Make the time between application and membership as short as possible. Don’t allow their enthusiasm to wane due to a long wait to join the club.
- Hold a meaningful induction ceremony for new members.
- Orient new members with an event that also includes fellowship with a cross-section of club members. Do not inundate new members with information that will not be retained. Instead have a shorter, higher level orientation that also has time to begin to build relationships with club members and leaders. Rely on the new member’s host to fill in the blanks.
- Identify a host for new members who will help the new member build relationships in the club and also act as a resource to answer questions and explain what was not covered in the orientation.
- Get the new member involved in service and the club immediately. Find out what in Rotary resonates with them. Find opportunities around their resonance. If the opportunities don’t yet exist, support the new member in exploring adding to the club.
- Make sure all club members extend the hand of fellowship.
